We have created our very own vegetable garden in the school grounds. There are three separate beds, where children come in contact with the earth and learn first-hand about the miraculous ways of nature. They dig, rake, plant, weed and water.
Put simply, they are responsible for the production of vegetables. This is not only great fun, but also gives them a sense of satisfaction, makes them more responsible, and encourages their environmental awareness.
Gardening even helps vegetables to be viewed more positively as whenever possible the vegetables they have grown are served up on a plate at mealtimes.
